Tri-Mountain State Park

Connecticut has a lot of state parks and that’s great! But when you hear some of the eye-popping numbers, keep in mind some of our state parks are like Tri-Mountain State Park in Wallingford and Durham.
Tri-Mountain State Park is simply an isolated stretch of woods with no roads, no road access, and one trail that traverses it across Fowler Mountain. That trail is the Mattabesett Trail, and that’s a great trail, but that’s all that here.
If you’re curious, the park originated in 1925 after Wallingford resident John B. Kendrick donated a six-acre parcel on the summit of Tri-Mountain’s southern peak that he had purchased for protective purposes in 1906.
Way back in 2008 when I traversed the length of this park, I wrote that “[Tri-Mountain] takes its name from its overall triangular shape, its three southern pinnacles, and the three notches between the pinnacles.” Hm. I guess?
